Wellness & Mental Health Counseling

Shaw’s on-site clinical therapist offers compassionate treatment to patients suffering from general mental health issues including depression, generalized anxiety, panic disorder, life stage transitions and post-traumatic stress. Elizabeth Nicholson, LCSW, also has specialized training in the treatment of pregnancy-related mental health from both the Postpartum Stress Center and Postpartum Support International. She provides counseling to OB clients with pregnancy and postpartum depression and anxiety, adjustment to early parenthood, traumatic birth experience, and pregnancy loss. Elizabeth is a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist through the Grief Recovery Outreach Program.

Up to 20% of all post-partum women experience some degree of postpartum depression. When a woman doesn’t experience the initial stages of motherhood as expected, feelings of disappointment, loss, and guilt can develop. If you are a new mother and not feeling the way you think you should, it’s OK to ask for help. You are not alone, you are not to blame, and you can get better.

Professional supportive counseling can help you learn to break the cycle of negative thinking, improve self-esteem, bolster self-care, and obtain the emotional support and practical help you need from family and friends.

Shaw Center has an onsite board-certified psychiatrist for your behavioral health needs.

The following are a few topics that have been presented to small and large groups. The content can be tailored to your organization’s size and specific goals. If you have an idea for a topic you’d like to explore, please contact us. Some of Elizabeth’s best speaking engagements have come about as a result of a direct request.

GRIEF RECOVERY® OUTREACH PROGRAM

The Grief Recovery® Outreach Program creates the safety and the correct action choices that help people Move Beyond the pain caused by loss. It is a twelve-week program, which creates a safe environment in which to look at old beliefs about dealing with loss; to look at what other losses have affected your life; and to take new actions which lead to completion of the pain attached to a recent loss, or one that occurred long ago. The Grief Recovery Handbook, The Action Program for Moving Beyond Death, Divorce, and Other Losses, (released by HarperCollins in 1998), and an accompanying format written by Institute founders, John W. James and Russell Friedman is used as the text for the Outreach Program. The Grief Recovery® Outreach Program is not an occasional, drop-in group. For the safety and success of all participants, commitment and attendance are essential. The fee for the program is $700. Most Insurances are accepted and payment plans are available. The Grief Recovery® Outreach Program is led by Elizabeth Nicholson, LCSW, who has been trained and certified by The Grief Recovery Institute®. To ensure your success within this program, your facilitator has direct access to the founders of the Institute.
